Devil On The Hill

Fearless when we’re dreaming,
Nightmares strike when we’re awake,
Hanging boughs of doubt,
Verdant talons scratch our face

Cast in forms from childhood
to the twilight of our days,
Told that we are wicked,
Feral strays upon our ways,

Even innocence is branded,
Sear the flesh, perpetual scar,
Creeping scapegoats of the other,
In our homes and afar, in our homes and afar,

Life is our journey,
All destinations are the same,
It’s what we do with in-between,
To grace or shame our name,

So laugh at our predicament,
Alleviate your lot,
Life’s a fleeting permanence
As a whole in just one spot,

For in our growing multiverse,
A thing that always lasts,
The ticking hand for human kind
Is always running fast,
It’s always running fast,

Just know that,
There is no devil on the hill,
There is no devil on the hill,
No one is watching you,
No one is judging you,
There is no devil on the hill,

These claws around my ankles
Drag me down into the deep,
But this dark pit is just the same
Where all the godly leap,

So embrace the raven’s darkness,
Its sweet silence as your friend,
The feathered bed of nothingness,
Our beginning and the end,

Hold the hand of those around you
Quash the glimmer of fear’s spark,
Bittersweet the time we spend here,
The light within the dark,
So, light up the dark,

Just know that,
There is no devil on the hill,
There is no devil on the hill,
No one is watching you,
No one is judging you,
There is no devil on the hill,
